Sometimes it’s REALLY (emphasis on the REALLY) hard for me to swallow my outrage at people who I politically disagree with, and accept them as part of the history that I love so much.
The Vietnam War is near and dear to my historically-oriented heart, and after watching episode after episode of M*A*S*H, I can’t help but identify myself to be a dove. So this song is awfully close to being too much for my stomach to handle.
But I guess the one thing I have learned about history is that it’s a story. A story that varies from person to person, and from generation to generation. So while I totally disagree with this song, I know that it was the truth to many Americans, so I can’t discredit it.
A lesson I learned from a good friendship with my high school history teachers: Nothing is black or white, but always somewhere in between.
