If I were paid like, a buck minimum every time someone, upon hearing that I am a history major, asks me if I’m gonna be a history teacher, I would have no problemo paying for graduate school.

And it’s not a rap against those people or history teachers, but rather a rap against history majors, because apparently we aren’t creative enough with our careers to imagine something different.

The end of another school year means I get to thinking sappy thoughts.

Tonight’s latest thought: I seriously did not expect myself to make it this far. I didn’t think I could take college. Everything is weird, and definitely not what I thought it would be like. When I started college as a sad, wide-eyed, homesick freshman, I could never have imagined myself as a 21 year old starting her last summer before graduation. I still can’t quite believe it. Nothing makes sense, yet I somehow keep moving through the senselessness and making something of it.

These are the nights when I feel like I won’t live past 21, because my brain cannot fathom being anything but what I am right now.

So, I do with what I’ve got.

It never fails. I’ve seen three “last night before going home for the summer”...

It never fails. I’ve seen three “last night before going home for the summer” nights, and every single time it looks and feels the same - I feel so alone, yet happy and energetic because I won’t be alone this time tomorrow night.

It’s a weird feeling. Mild shock that I’ve already made it through three years of college, so much excitement and relief that I want to chew the fat with anyone who walks by, a desire to say forget the packing, I’m taking a night off, and a deeper sense of disgruntlement that I will never get out of here if I don’t start packing RIGHT NOW.

So, this is me, beginning the colossal task of packing up this whole room and bundling it into a truck, knowing full well that I will be so busy that I won’t even be able to unpack it for the next month.

College is weird, yo.

It’s going to be a gnarly year.
